On explains Apas

The five tattvas, including the apas tattva, are present everywhere. Balancing the tattvas is the best way to stay healthy. Physical manifestations of the water element are the kidneys, the lymphatic system and the reproductive organs. The svadisthana (root) chakra is also associated with apas.

Ayurveda combines the tattvas to classify them as doshas. Apas tattva, along with prithvi tattva, form the kapha dosha. Akasha and vayu tattva combine as the vata dosha. Finally, the agni tattva is the pitta dosha. Ayurveda treats illnesses by harmonizing and balancing the three doshas.

Hatha yoga practice helps to maintain balance of the five tattvas in the body, thereby promoting physical and mental health.
